The Mt. Vernon Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new member on April 30 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the chamber office. Local tree trimming outfit Austco Tree Service was the feature of the day.
First on Front, the concert series in Monett sponsored by First State Bank of the Ozarks, opened its 2026 season on May 1, bringing crowds to the Downtown Pavilion despite cool weather.

A major achievement after years of discussion concluded last week with the placement of a new roof on Monett’s Freedom Silo. The structure, dating from the turn of the century, was transformed by the mural painted on it in 2020 by Raine Clotfelter into a new landmark.
Missouri Senate Bill 3 in Missouri has appeared on the ballot in 97 of the 114 counties in Missouri, passing in many of them, including Lawrence County.
The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen had a busy day at their April 14 meeting. Over the course of the more than hour-long meeting, the board swore in new and returning members, bestowed funding to Red,White and Boom, and passed multiple ordinances.
