6-year-old dead after accidental homicide in Lawrence County
Six-year-old Bridger Ransom Boggs died from a gunshot wound to the head in a “tragic accident” Friday, Aug. 28.
According to a press release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, authorities reportedly responded to the Stotts City home of Duste and Erin Boggs on Friday afternoon after a report of a child who had been shot.
Per the release, the boy was found with a gunshot wound to the head. The Lawrence County Coroner took the child shortly after for an autopsy.
The autopsy was completed on Monday, Aug. 31, and the official cause of death was ruled a homicide by firearm.
The investigation is still ongoing and may not be completed for some time. The sheriff’s office conveyed there is currently no reason to suspect foul play or suspicious circumstances. The incident is believed to be an accident.
The release reminds readers that, though it is labeled a homicide, that does not mean it was an intentional act.
State Representative Mitch Boggs, the victim’s uncle, and brother to Duste Boggs released a statement on Facebook following the incident. It follows.
“It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of my beloved nephew, Bridger Ransom Boggs, who died following a tragic accident at his home.
Bridger was born January 28, 2020, to my brother, Duste, and his wife, Erin Boggs. He was our little happy man, our little cowboy, and was deeply loved by his entire family. Full of life and always on the move, Bridger could often be seen riding around on his little Segway. While our hearts are broken by this unimaginable loss, we find comfort in knowing that Bridger has gone to meet his Savior.
Our family has been surrounded by an incredible outpouring of love and support, and we are deeply grateful for everyone who has reached out and stood beside us. We ask for your continued prayers for Duste, Erin, and our entire family, and respectfully ask that their privacy be protected as we grieve.”
