Mid-December completion date the new goal for long-stalled bridge project entering town’s north side
Construction on the Highway 39 railroad overpass outside of Aurora is set to resume on the week of Monday, July 29, after being halted for several months. David Mitchell, a senior communication specialist with the Missouri Department of Transportation, said the problems which held up the overpass’s construction have been resolved, so work on it can begin again soon.”
“The project was temporarily suspended in late 2018 when it took longer than anticipated for contract coordination between Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad and the contractor, Hartman & Company, Inc., for work over and near the railroad tracks,” Mitchell said. “Those plans have now been approved, (and) work is expected to resume the week of July 29.”
Jon Holmes, Aurora city manager, said the city will be “very happy” when the project is complete.
“We have received complaints,” he said. “Not due to inconvenience really, just that people are wanting to see the project complete. We have had to explain numerous times that the project is not a city project, but it is a MoDOT project. I do not blame MoDOT, I have worked with railroad construction projects in the past and they are always very time consuming; the railroads take their time reviewing plans.”
The contractor building the overpass has 140 days to complete construction, placing the deadline sometime near mid- December.
