Gardner accused of burglary, other charges after bizarre behavior
An Oklahoma woman was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 27 after she allegedly threatened employees at the Sonic Drive-in and vandalized a hotel room at the USA Inn Motel in Mt. Vernon.
Adaira Jazmanne Gardner, 23, is facing charges of first- and second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and property damage.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, Gardner went to Sonic and placed an order. She reportedly became upset when she requested extra condiments and was told she would have to pay for them, and began shouting profanities through the intercom. The manager said she came out to speak to Gardner, only to be told that Gardner had walked into the Sonic kitchen. The manager said Gardner was “screaming profanities and stating she was going to come back and kill them.”
At that point, the manager said they called 911 and Gardner, hearing the police were coming, left on foot and began walking southward bound on Mt. Vernon Boulevard.
The officer investigating the incident reported she was looking for Gardner when she was dispatched to USA Inn Motel, where a woman had walked into an open room and began taking a shower. Upon arriving at USA Inn, the officer spoke to the manager, who gave a description of the woman; it matched the description of Gardner.
The officer reported she entered the room and said she heard the shower running. She stated that she knocked on the door and asked Gardner to shut off the shower and come out, but Gardner didn’t comply.
After trying a second time, Gardner told the officer to open the door; the officer said Gardner was standing in the shower, unclothed. The officer stated she repeatedly asked Gardner to get out of the shower and get dressed, which Gardner eventually did.
After Gardner got dressed, the officer reported that she took Gardner’s right hand and told her she was going to place her in handcuffs. The officer was able to handcuff Gardner’s left wrist, but then Gardner reportedly began screaming and pulling away from her. The officer then told Gardner to stop resisting and asked her to step out of the bathroom, at which point she said Gardner raised her right hand and punched the bathroom mirror, shattering it. The officer then pulled Gardner out of the bathroom, placed her on the ground and put her in handcuffs.
According to the probable cause statement, the hotel manager reported that Gardner had stayed in the room the night before and destroyed the alarm clock and coffee maker, and also made holes in the wall.
Prior to the incident at Sonic, Gardner was also allegedly involved in a situation at the Lawrence County Courthouse, where she was reported to have taken a “sink bath,” and pulled up her dress to warm herself by a radiator. An employee also said his lunch went missing from the break room while Gardner was there. Gardner is not facing any charges concerning those incidents.
