Going, going ... it’s still here

The caboose at the Mt. Vernon Area Chamber of Commerce sits on blocks following a day-long effort to remove it from the chamber property Friday, Nov. 9. Once raised off the ground the undercarriage was removed and the rail car was eventually placed on a trailer. As of press time Tuesday, at 1 p.m., the caboose still sat on the trailer in the parking lot of the chamber thanks to unforeseen obstacles and poor weather. The caboose was sold by the MVACC Board of Directors, who didn’t want to maintain the costly piece of memorabilia. (Photo by Tressie Casey)
