Gertrude Bernice Haynes

Gertrude Bernice Haynes, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at her home, in Mt. Vernon. She was born Octo. 6, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pa, the daughter of James Albert and Esther Franklin (Clark) Martin.

She was a 1958 graduate of Bethel Park High School in Bethel Park, Pa. and was a United States Navy veteran. She and her husband Richard were the owners and operators of Mom and Pops Donut Shop in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon VFW Post 4541 and the Ozark Presbyterian (Brick) Church of Mt. Vernon.

On May 18, 1960, she married Richard Haynes in Oakland, Calif. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2021.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Ellis, of Mt. Vernon, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James, and Esther Martin; husband, Richard Haynes; daughter, Lonna Maurico; two granddaughters, Kady Ellis, and Candice Mauricio; two brothers, James Martin and Charles Martin and son-in-law, Dwayne Ellis.

No services are planned currently. Burial will be held later at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
