Elmer Preston Haley

Elmer Preston Haley, 89, passed away Nov. 7, 2018 after a short stay at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon.
Haley was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Verona. As a young man, Haley held many odd jobs during his youth to help his dad care for his mother who was legally blind. Haley ended up retiring from Mid-Am Dairy in Monett after 25 years of service. He loved to sing and often would travel around with his friends called the “Haley Quartet” and sing at various churches around the area. He was a devoted Christian and always had a Bible nearby to quote a verse as needed. Haley also had a passion for old trucks. He had a blue 1953 Chevy truck that he refurbished and named “Old Blue”. He frequented many car shows over the years and accumulated quite the collection of trophies. He loved driving Old Blue in the various Christmas parades around the area with friends and family throwing candy out of the back.
Haley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Horner) Haley and a host of family.
A visitation was held Nov. 9, at Peterson Funeral home in Aurora at 12 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m. and burial at Maple Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in care of the funeral home.
