Dorothy Maxine (Schnake) Doennig

Dorothy Maxine (Schnake) Doennig, was born August 21, 1934 in Lawrence County, Missouri to Lloyd and Opal (Witthaus) Schnake. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior on August 7, 2026, at her home in Ozark, Missouri.
As a child, Dorothy at- tended schools and churches throughout Lawrence County including Downey, Dry Val- ley, Verona High School, then graduating from Mount Vernon High School. She was saved at the age of 11 at Downey Church and served the Lord her entire life.
On June 29, 1952 Dorothy married Wilbur Leon Doennig at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, MO. The couple made their home in Monett, MO. where Dorothy worked at Vaisey Bristol Shoe Company for five years. After becoming a mother, she was a stay at home mom and worked alongside Wilbur on the farm including milking cows, cutting, raking, and bailing hay, tending a large garden and preserving its bounty through canning. In 1966 the family moved to Ozark, MO. where they continued farming for many years.
After farming, they owned and operated an excavation business where they built and maintained roads. Following Wilbur’s death in 1994, Dorothy and son, Curtis, continued to operate the business. She maintained records for the Selmore Special Road District while Curtis man- aged operations. Dorothy was also dedicated to serving her community by volunteering her time working the election polls for many years.
Dorothy’s home was a very busy place, as her door was always open. Between farm-hands, hay haulers, neighborhood kids, and family, she never knew how many mouths would need fed or pillows for their heads. When son Chuck began Doennig Sport Swings and Ozark Paintball, it became all the more true of people in and out all hours of the day and night. In this, she became affectionately known as “Granny” to many.
Dorothy’s earthly life was centered by her steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. This was shown in all she did including how she raised her fam- ily. She faithfully attend Healing River Worship Center (Oak Ridge Full Gospel Church) until she became homebound. She never fully regained her physical independence after a fall in October 2024. We rejoice knowing that she is now fully healed and restored and we can join her again someday.
Dorothy’s greatest joy and recipients of her prayers were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children Cathy Leslie of Nixa, MO, Chuck Doennig of Ozark, MO, Curtis Doennig of Ozark, MO, and Cammy Plumb (Nelson) of Wentworth, MO; Grandchildren Briawna Leslie, Sharesa Rodgers, Lacey Rodgers, and Blake Doennig; Great-Grandchildren Kierra, Sophia, Ezekiel, Joseph, Logan, and Malachi. She is also survived by her sister Erma Langley, sisters-in-law Gloria Buttes (Larry) and Marjie Schnake, brothers-in-law Gerald Doennig and Chuck Long (Polly). Dorothy has many nieces and nephews who were dear to her and many referred to her as Aunt Dot.
She was preceded in death by her hus- band Wilbur Doennig; parents Lloyd and Opal Schnake; father and mother-in-law Herman and Esther Doennig; and siblings Earl Schnake, John Schnake, Faye Swearengin, Jean Evans, Linda Beck Fry, and Kaye Long.
The family would like to express thanks to those that helped care for Dorothy since getting her back home in February 2025. Also thank you to everyone who has surrounded our family with prayers and love during this time.
