Cold weather be darned, it was Hawaiian luau time at the MARC Saturday night at the annual Mt. Vernon Area Chamber of Commerce banquet. The evening’s luau theme included Hawaiian apparel, decor and a lei was presented to each attendee at the door.
More than 200 people paid the fee for entry, which included a meal from Hog Tide Bar-B-Que, Aurora. The proceedings also included entertainment from the music duo Uke 66, a local ukulele twosome. Ending the program was a full slate of awards including local outstanding students, Golden Apple Awards, Business of the Year, New Member of the Year and a first time Lifetime Achievement Award.
“The Hawaiian Luau theme was a success with decor created by the Farrell family, and centerpieces and table gifts from many local chamber members,” said Chamber Director Pam Dudley. “The Board of Directors worked hard to make the evening fun for all attendees. We will take a little rest then start planning for next year. Thanks to everyone that supported our event.”
