The City of Mt. Vernon hosted their annual Independence Day celebration, Red, White and BOOM on Friday, June 28 at the Spirit of ’76 Park. The event, free and open to the public, featured a number of attractions, including free swim, live music, laser tag, and a fireworks display.

Crumbling sidewalks concern at least one homeowner worried about liability from potential accidents
Mt. Vernon will be getting a survey of its sidewalks to help the city determine where its focus should be on sidewalk replacements.

Roxanne Bell and Chelle Walrath are teaming up to open Ruby Lu’s, a new restaurant on the Mt. Vernon city square. Together, with the help of their kitchen manager, Regina Stewart, they plan to open the restaurant in the building which formerly housed Martin’s Mt’neer Diner.
