After decades in business, the Mt. Vernon KFC restaurant, in joint operation with Long John Silver’s at 1101 East Mt. Vernon Boulevard, has permanently closed its doors. The last day open for the long-held franchise was Monday, March 17.

On Monday, Feb. 24, Monett High School senior Vayla Smith signed her national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic track career as a Jennie at the University of Central Missouri. She plans to major in Psychology and hopes to one day become a Clinical Psychologist.
