The Mt. Vernon Area Community Foundation will celebrate Apple Butter Makin’ Days on Friday afternoon by handing out a record amount to 13 charities.
The $54,043 which will be presented this week betters last year’s total of $52,450.

Levi Neely, Miller’s new interim chief of police formally introduced himself at the Miller Board of Aldermen meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13. In his introduction, Neely thanked the city for his appointment as chief.

In September of 2016, Carrie Sapp was written a citation when her dog, a white pit bull, apparently cornered a postal carrier outside her house. She went to court, pled guilty, and paid the citation.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Miller Lady Cardinals volleyball team got a big win over Verona, 25-9 and 25-13. The win was made even more special, as it marked the 200th career coaching win for Miller head volleyball coach Tamra Landers.

Running for reelection, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri, stopped in at the Keen Bean in Mt. Vernon on Wednesday. Sept. 19, to speak with supporters about some of the issues on which she is campaigning. An estimated 75 people filled the coffee shop.
