A murderer convicted in a Lawrence County Court has died in prison. Brandon Hutchison, 44, who was convicted of the shooting murders of Aurora brothers Ronald and Brian Yates in 1996, died of natural causes while serving a life sentence at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking.

Meek’s Lumber and Hardware in Mt. Vernon has closed its doors. It wasn’t immediately clear when the store closed for business, but on Monday, Nov. 4, a sign posted on the storefront announced the store’s closing, and directed customers to the nearest location, at 827 Jerome Lane in Monett.

Mt. Vernon schools are getting ready to invest major focus into graduation rates. According to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Mt. Vernon is considered to be “on track” for state standard graduation rates.
