Mt’neers football fall to state ranked Seneca
The Mt. Vernon High School football team traveled to Class 3, fifth ranked Seneca, on Friday, Sept. 18 but came home with a 35-12 loss.
The Mt’neers are 1-3 on the season and will host McDonald County this Friday night. Mt. Vernon currently sits in fourth place in the Class 3, District 6 standings with 26.92 points. Cassville leads the district with 49.67 points, followed by Nevada (45.92 points), Seneca (35.42 points), Mt. Vernon, Reeds Spring (24.67 points), Hollister (14 points) and Aurora (13.25 points).
Volleyball
The Mt. Vernon High School volleyball team played just one game last week, traveling to Seneca on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and coming home with a three-set win, 25-10, 25-10, 25-12.
Ziah Schmutz led the Lady Mt’neers with 12 kills, Elli Eddington had 10 kills, Savannah Dampf added eight kills, and Claire Hale ended the game with six aces.
“It's always nice to start conference play with a win,” said head coach Bridgett Schmutz.
Mt. Vernon is currently 6-6-3 on the season and were scheduled to play against Nevada last night and Lamar tomorrow night.
