MV loses power Friday night, root cause unknown

Part of the city of Mt. Vernon lost power for several hours Friday night thanks to a blown current transformer.
“We lost power to our No. 2 substation when Empire had a current transformer blow Fridaynight. Empire had to send crews out to replace the CT and test the primary transformer to see if it was damaged when the CT blew,” said Mt. Vernon City Administrator Max Springer. “It takes about four hours for them to run the test on the primary transformer. We do not know what caused the CT to blow.”
