Mt. Vernon hires company for economic development incentive
The City of Mt. Vernon has kicked off a new economic development strategic planning initiative in partnership with O’Brian & Associates to guide the city’s growth and strengthen its local economy for years to come.
The initiative will focus on identifying opportunities to attract investment, support existing businesses, and enhance residents' quality of life. The planning process will involve detailed data analysis, collaboration with community leaders, and engagement with local stakeholders to create actionable strategies for Mount Vernon’s future.
Sattler & Associates and Goldstone Consulting Group are supporting the project with their expertise in research, analysis, and community planning.
“This strategic plan will help position Mt. Vernon for long-term success,” said Mayor Jason Haymes. “By partnering with experienced consultants and involving the community, we are creating a roadmap for sustainable economic growth and new opportunities for our residents and businesses.”
Everyone can be involved
The planning process will include opportunities for residents, business owners, and community organizations to share their vision for Mt. Vernon. Once complete, the economic development strategic plan will provide clear, actionable recommendations for investment, business recruitment, workforce development, and infrastructure planning.
“Community input is a key part of this process,” said Rob O’Brian, president of O’Brian & Associates. “We want residents to help shape the future of Mt. Vernon every step of the way.”
“By combining insights on workforce trends, housing, and retail opportunities, this plan will give Mt. Vernon a comprehensive roadmap for growth,” said Robert Harrington, city administrator. “Our goal is to help the city make informed decisions that attract new businesses, support local companies, and strengthen the community for years to come.”
O’Brian & Associates will lead an assessment of Mt. Vernon’s current workforce and future needs, while Goldstone Consulting Group will conduct a community retail needs analysis and a community housing needs assessment to evaluate market demand and growth potential. Sattler & Associates will provide its expertise on workforce and housing and lead development of economic development strategies. “I am pleased that these knowledgeable and experienced firms are partnering with us to ensure we thoroughly address all of the areas requested by the City of Mt. Vernon,” said O’Brian.
Updates on the project will be shared with the public as the strategic planning process moves forward.
