Mt. Vernon Chief of Police Hubert gets retirement sendoff from Lawrence County Dispatch

Mt. Vernon Chief of Police Dave Hubert will be retiring according to an “end of watch” sendoff broadcast from Lawrence County Dispatch on the afternoon of Friday, July 17. 

The message thanked Hubert for his years of dedication and service to the community and to law enforcement as a whole.

Hubert has been the chief for more than a decade, and in law enforcement longer than that, 30 years according to the message. 

A partial transcript of the final call follows:

"Attention all units. Stand by for a priority radio broadcast. Dispatch to Chief Hubert, Badge Number 601.

Chief, after a lifetime dedicated to protecting this community, this will be your final radio call.

In August of 1996, on your very first day in uniform, you accepted a responsibility that few truly understand. For 30 years in Law Enforcement, you stood between danger and those you had sworn to protect. You answered calls at every hour of the day and night. You missed holidays, birthdays, family dinners, and countless moments that can never be replaced—all so someone else's family could be safe. … Chief Hubert, 601, your shift is complete. Your watch has ended.

You have served this community faithfully and with honor. It is now time to enjoy the reward of a well-earned retirement. Thank you for your years of faithful service. May God bless you and your family in the years ahead.

Rest easy, Chief. We have the watch from here. End of Watch. End of Career. Congratulations on your retirement. You may go 10-42.”
