On Tuesday, Feb. 11, Mt. Vernon High School senior Danny Fields signed his national letter of intent to continue his academic and football career as a Lion at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. He plans to major in Physical Therapy.
This year was his fourth year as a member of the Mt’neers varsity football team. During his four years he was awarded 2nd team All Conference Offensive Tackle; All-District Offensive Tackle and All-Area Offensive Tackle.
Along with football, he also plays baseball and has maintained a 3.0 GPA.
Fields said, “I chose MSSU because I loved how close it is to home. The coaches and training staff are very smart and I loved the weight room, PT room and the field. In all, the campus at MSSU is exactly what I am looking for in a college.”
When asked about how he feels about playing at the next level he said, “I’m very excited to extend my football career past high school and learn new things from my coaches and teammates.”
Mt. Vernon head football coach, Tom Cox said, “Danny made a lot of people happy when he signed his letter of intent with Missouri Southern. His size and speed will serve him well as an offensive lineman in their program. Danny has always wanted to play college football and his hard work and ability has made that dream come true. Congratulations to Danny and his family.”
