Monett remembers 9/11

On Sept. 11, a remembrance ceremony for those lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was held on Front Street in Monett, next to the Freedom Silo, visible at rear. Firefighters at center stood nearest the ladder truck with an American flag extended, while a color guard from the Scott Regional Technology Center’s Army ROTC unit presented colors. Murray Bishoff

Speakers at the Monett Area Chamber of Commerce’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony included Mayor Randy Burke, right, and Fire Dept. Capt. Clell Maples, center. In his prayer, Maples asked for peace and comfort to the families of the lost. “We also pray for our nation to return to the united state that we were after that tragedy where we can stand together, help each other, pray together, and remember that we as the United States of America, one nation under God, and no matter what, as long as we are together, we will prevail.” Deputy Chief Dustin Stellwagen at left rang the ceremonial fire bell as part of the ceremony.
