Monett baseball wins three more games last week, Lady Cubs soccer drops first two games of the season

The Monett High School baseball team spent last week in Carthage playing in the Bill O’Dell Varsity Festival, winning all three games they played.

 

The Cubs defeated Southwest (Washburn) 11-1 on Saturday, March 28.

 

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but that would be it for Southwest. Monett answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the second, four runs again in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning, sealing the victory.

 

On Friday, March 27, the Cubs defeated Doniphan 4-1. Monett scored one run in the top of the first inning and three runs in the third inning. The Dons scored their lone run in the fourth inning.

 

Carson Burtrum went 2-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs, Miles Young was 1-3 with an RBI and Brayden Seitz got the win, going six innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

 

In their first game of the festival on Thursday, March 26, Monett defeated New Covenant Academy, 4-3.

 

The Cubs scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings, with the Warriors matching them. New Covenant Academy scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 3-3 before Monett walked it off in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

Samuel Carr went 2-2 with an RBI, Matthew Semerad was 1-3 with an RBI and Young finished the game 1-4 with an RBI.

 

Monett is 6-0 on the season and were scheduled to play at Hollister on Monday night before hosting the Monett Tournament today through Friday.

 

Girls soccer

 

The Lady Cubs soccer team hosted Lighthouse Sr High on Tuesday, March 24 but lost to the Lady Chargers 6-0. Monett opened their 2026 season by traveling to Neosho on Monday, March 23 but lost to the Lady Wildcats 6-1.

 

Monett is 0-2 on the season and were scheduled to host Cassville last night.
