Monett baseball beats Reeds Spring, Cubs run rule Southwest (Washburn)

The Monett High School baseball team traveled to Reeds Spring on Saturday, March 21 and defeated the Wolves 3-1.
 
There were no runs for the first four and half innings, before Reeds Spring got a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cubs scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Monett would add another run in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.
 
Carson Burtrum went 1-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBIs and Brayden Seitz was 0-3 with an RBI. Dylan Washick pitched four innings, allowing no runs on three hits with a walk and four strike outs. Seitz was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
 
Monett opened their season on Friday, March 20 in Southwest and defeated the Trojans 20-2.
 
Monett scored two runs in the first and third innings, three runs in the fourth inning, four runs in the fifth inning and nine runs in the sixth inning. Southwest scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
 
Seitz was 2-3 with a double, a triple, four runs scored and four RBIs, Samuel Carr went 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs, Pablo Rueda was 3-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, Burtrum went 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Washick finished the game 2-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
 
Seth Denney went two and a third innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and Butrum went three and two third of an inning, allowing one hit, one run with two walks and nine strikeouts.
 
Monett is 2-0 on the season and were scheduled to host El Dorado Springs last night before heading to Carthage to compete in the Bill O'Dell Varsity Festival tomorrow night through Saturday.
 
Girls soccer
 
Lady Cubs soccer has yet to get started and were scheduled to travel to Neosho on Monday night before hosting Lighthouse SR High last night and then traveling to Branson for the Branson Shootout this weekend.
