Monett mother dies after multiple gunshot wounds in dispute

The investigation is continuing into the homicide of 30-year-old Hannah Lee Blizard by Monett police on Dec. 20. Alan Michael Mellow, 31, of Monett, is being held in the Barry County jail without bond for her shooting death.
According to releases by the Monett Police, Blizard and Mellow lived together in an apartment in the 300 block of Fairway Avenue in Monett with their three-month-old child. Around 1 p.m., the two adults were in the apartment complex parking lot in front of the apartment in a mid-sized four-door Nissan sedan as what police described as a domestic dispute took place.
According to Monett Police Lt. Dennis Camp, Mellow fired multiple shots with a medium caliber handgun at Blizard. She was struck in the head, mortally wounded, Camp confirmed.
Mellow took the child, who was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, into the apartment and barricaded himself there.
Monett Police responded to the scene, along with Barry County Sheriff’s personnel, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and a Highway Patrol SWAT team. Barry-Lawrence Ambulance and city firefighters also responded.
After about an hour, Mellow surrendered to authorities without incident. Barry County Detective Sgt. Scott Landreth had taken command of the scene. Mellow was transported directly to the Barry County jail, where Landreth interviewed him and obtained a statement that had not been made public by presstime.
Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen pronounced Blizard dead at the scene. Monett police collected evidence after obtaining search warrants for both the apartment and the car. The vehicle has been placed into storage.
The child was transported by ambulance for medical evaluation for matters unrelated to the incident. As of Monday morning, the child remained in the hospital. Custody was undetermined at that time.
Barry County Prosecutor Amy Boxx has charged Mellow with first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of first degree child endangerment. Arraignment in Barry County Circuit Court was expected on Monday.
Mellow has a history of traffic offenses in Monett and Cassville municipal courts in 2024, 2021, 2019 and 2017. He served 30 days in the county jail in 2019 for a traffic offense. He faced domestic assault and armed criminal action charges stemming from a June 5, 2019, incident, where Mellow was accused of stabbing a victim who was left in critical condition. Charges in that case were dismissed.
