Linda Sue Powell-Bossi

Linda Sue Powell-Bossi passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026. She was born in Aurora, on Jan. 31, 1947.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold “Barney” Powell; her mother, Mary Hull Powell; her sister, Shirley Nunn and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Bossi; sister-in-law, Karen Eagles; stepsons, Brent Bossi and his wife, Beverly, Derek Bossi and his wife, Angela; and grandchildren.
After graduating from Aurora High School, She attended SMS, now Missouri State University, where she earned her teaching degree, followed by a master’s degree and a specialist degree. She moved to St. Louis, where she taught for six years. She returned to Springfield, where she taught kindergarten for 24 years. She retired from Wanda Gray Elementary School in 2000.
During her teaching career, she took a two-year leave of absence to serve as president of the Springfield Chapter of the NEA Teachers Union.
She devoted much of her life to volunteering and serving others. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter JL and Alpha Delta Kappa, a teachers’ organization. She also served on the Missouri Board of Directors for Missouri Retired NEA Teachers and was involved with the Senior Democrats of Springfield and the local Democratic office. She was a member of the ladies’ group at National Avenue Christian Church and served as a deacon there.
She was also part of a group that organized Harvest on Wheels, a nonprofit corporation registered with the State of Missouri.
A celebration of life was held at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, 303 S. Jefferson Ave, Aurora, on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. with a short service that started at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Crosslines of Springfield or the National Avenue Christian Church.
