Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness: Declaration of Independence read on Historic LawCo Courthouse lawn

 Lawrence County joined in the simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 on the historic courthouse steps.  Col. (Ret.) Gary Gilmore read the Declaration of Independence commemorating the first public reading in 1776. Cities across the nation took part in the simultaneous reading as part of "Sharing the Spirit of America."  Aurora and Marionville also participated in the reading. Hundreds were in attendance.
