Lady Mt’neers win Silver Division at Strafford Volleyfest on hardwood

The Lady Mt’neers had a huge week that resulted in a division championship in Strafford, but ultimately fell to Strafford in bracket play.
The week began Monday against East Newton and it was all Mt. Vernon from the word go. The Lady Mt’neers earned their first three-set sweep since Sept.14, downing the Lady Patriots 25-13, 25-18 and 25-13.
Tuesday, arch rival Aurora came to town in search of a much needed win at the expense of the Lady Mt’neers. The Lady Houn’s got the action started with an impressive 25-21 set one win. The Lady Mt’neers bounced back with three straight set wins 25-13, 25-21 and 25-16 for the come from behind 3-1 match victory for the Lady Mt’neers eighth win over Aurora in the last nine meetings.
Thursday night Hollister came to town and Mt. Vernon made easy work of the Lady Tigers winning in straight sets 25-14, 25-16 and 25-20.
The week concluded with one of the best events of the fall in the Strafford Volleyfest. Mt. Vernon took care of business in the pool play portion of the tournament defeating Osceola 2-0, and tying Reeds Spring 1-1 before falling to Strafford 2-0, but still qualified for the Silver Bracket. After moving on to bracket play, they defeated Osceola again 2-0 before defeating Liberty 2-1 to secure the Silver Division title.
Mt. Vernon improves 11-8-4 on the season as Big 8 play continues with a pair of matchups with Rogersville on Tuesday, and Marshfield on Thursday.
