Lady Houn’s fall in district championship game, Aurora boys lose opening round game of districts
The 2025-26 high school basketball season have come to end for the boys and girls teams of Aurora after both teams fell in their district tournament last week.
The Lady Houn’s reached the championship game of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament in Hollister but lost to Reeds Spring on Friday, March 6, 40-29.
Aurora held a very slim 9-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Wolves were able to answer back and outscore the Lady Houn’s, 12-9 in the second quarter to tie the game at 18-18 by halftime. Reeds Spring and Aurora both played great defense in the third quarter, with the Lady Wolves outscoring the Lady Houn’s, 9-5 to take a 27-23 lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Reeds Spring continued to play great defense and hit some timely shots to score 13 points in the quarter to win the game by 11 points.
Kylee Phelps led Aurora with 12 points, Taianna Yandall had six points and Lyla Seitz and Brooke Blevins both ended the game with five points each.
Aurora reached the championship game by defeating Clever, 31-30, in the semifinals on Wednesday, March 4.
The Lady Houn’s end their season with a 12-14 record.
Boys basketball
The Aurora boys team was also in Hollister for their Class 4, District 11 Tournament but lost to Hollister in an opening round game on Tuesday, March 3, 68-53. The Houn’ Dawgs ended their season with an 8-19 record.
