The Mt. Vernon Economic Development Corporation took action in introducing Mt. Vernon high schoolers to local manufacturing. The organization hosted a manufacturing tour, Friday, Oct. 19, in honor of National Manufacturing Day, which occurs annually the first Friday in October.

The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen passed two ordinances during the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23, authorizing agreements between the city and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), and between the city and Empire District Industries.

Congressman Billy Long, accompanied by some 32 interested individuals, stopped to visit Gleonda Angus Farms near Miller during his agriculture tour on Thursday, Oct. 18. Gleonda Angus Farms, owned by Leon and Glenda Kleeman, was one of six stops Long made that day.

Baptist Hill will celebrate 100 years during a small ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 28. Hubert Conway, pastor of Curtis Chapel and a former member of Baptist Hill’s board of directors, will be the main speaker during the celebration.

Colton Hicks, a senior at Mt. Vernon High School, won Better Business Bureau's first-ever in the Ozarks $2,500 scholarship. This was sponsored by Solutions Roofing Inc.
