A new Dollar General store could come to Halltown sometime in the not too distant future. The national retail chain is considering putting a location in the town at the southeast corner of Highway 266 and North Dogwood Drive (Highway Z).

On Friday March 15, 2019 a fatal incident occurred on County Road 2140, three miles north of Freistatt when a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by Grant Jester, 28, of Stotts City struck a pedestrian who was walking in the traffic lane. The pedestrian was Corey Jones, 37, of Monett.
