Downtown Mt. Vernon alive with autos from resurrected Rotary car show on the square

The Mt. Vernon Rotary Club hosted a humdinger of an inaugural car show Saturday on the north side of the Mt. Vernon square. In total, 80 vehicles entered the event, as well as one boat. Rotary president-elect Marsha Jones was excited about the success of the show.
"It exceeded our wildest expectations by 100 percent," Jones said.
The day wasn't just a social success, but also a money maker. The fundraiser helped amass four $1,000 scholarships which were awarded to four Mt. Vernon High School seniors at Monday night's awards banquet at the high school.

The organization has had some car show experience in the past, hosting similar events on the square from 2007-2009. In light of this year's impressive turnout, Jones said she fully expects this to become an annual affair.

The People Have Spoken—The People's Choice Award for the judged show was presented to Zeke Williams for his 1932 Ford HighBoy.
