Monett chugs into Christmas season

Steve Burnett’s authentic train, remounted on a truck chassis, led Monett’s Christmas parade carrying Santa Claus. This was the train’s first appearance at a Monett parade. The train was marked as coming from The Society of 40 Men and 8 Horses, an independent honor society of American veterans, in from Camden County, N.J.
Roberts Eye Care, with its float decorated with pairs of glasses, surrounded by giant lollypops, won the Monett Area Chamber’s Holly Jolly Spirit Award for most festive entry, and Santa’s Choice Award as the best overall entry in Monett’s Christmas parade.
City parade boasts 96 entries; Roberts Eye Care claims Holly Jolly Spirit Award, Santa’s Choice Award
The parade had 96 units participating and lasted for 80 minutes.
