DOROTHY MARIE (BOSWELL) COWAN

Dorothy Marie (Boswell) Cowan, 99, of Carthage passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. She was born in Wentworth on July 31, 1925; the daughter of William Burton Boswell and Nellie Helen McCullough.
She lived in the Wentworth/Pierce City area until she turned 18 years old, then moved to Carthage. She worked at Big Smith, Leggett & Platt, and as a real estate agent. She was also a foster and surrogate mom to many children through the years. She was a member of Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church.
On Aug. 18, 1944, she married Lee Earl Cowan in Columbus, Kan. They were married for over 65 years when he passed away on Feb. 21, 2010.
She is survived by three sons: Bill Cowan of Joplin, Robert Cowan (Lucia) of Carthage and Dale Cowan of Chelsea, Okla.; two daughters, Gail Grigg of Carthage and Debbie (Mike) Ulmer of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; her parents; three brothers: Ralph, Jack and Burt Boswell; three sisters: Ava Riddle, Iola Graves and Nelda Boswell (infant); a granddaughter, Meghan “Maggie” Cowan; and two grand-dogs, Lucy and Tilly.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 4, at Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church in Carthage. Burial was at Van Buren Cemetery in Wentworth.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
