DON EDWARD WOOD

Don Edward Wood, age 80, of Billings, Missouri, passed away at 2:34 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, at his home. He was born July 23, 1944, in Granite City, Illinois; the son of Edward Garland and Leta Mae (Bigelow) Wood.
As an infant the family moved to Missouri and Don lived in the La Russell, Missouri area where grade school was a one room schoolhouse. After graduating from Miller High School in Miller, Missouri in 1962, Don joined the Army National Guard for six years.
Don worked for 25 years at the Ozark Electric Cooperative in Mt. Vernon; working his way up from lineman to assistant manager until 1987 when they moved to Jefferson City, Missouri where he went to work for the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperative retiring in 1998.
Don enjoyed building and refinishing furniture, fishing, gardening, and landscaping and was an all-around handyman.
On November 23, 1966, Don married Betty Janice Johnson in Miller, Missouri. To this union a son, Kevin Dale Wood was born in 1968. Don and Betty also had a baby girl, Lisa Lynn who was born on September 2, 1970, and a baby boy, Terry Cale who was born on October 1, 1971.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Leta; his two infant children, Lisa and Terry; two brothers, Jerry and Larry Wood; his sister, Lynda Bowles; brother-in-law, Dennis Cobb and two sisters-in-law, Irma Wood and Wilma Wood.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; his son, Kevin Dale Wood and his spouse, Mark Forney of Hannibal, Missouri; two grandsons, Christian and Lucas Forney-Wood; two sisters, Leota Sue Cobb of Republic, Missouri and Wanda Witherspoon and her husband, DeWayne of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary Wood of Monett, Missouri and brother-in-law, Newell Bowles of Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Burial followed at the Rock Prairie Cemetery in Halltown, Missouri.
