Big 8 conference back-to-back undefeated conference champs

For two straight seasons, the Lady Mt’neers have not lost a conference basketball game. On Thursday, Feb. 15, Mt. Vernon needed just one final conference win to win back-to-back undefeated titles and they got the win

over the McDonald County Lady Mustangs in dominating fashion, 70-20.

On what was the final regular season home game for the Lady Mt’neers, as well as Pink-Out Night, Mt. Vernon donned pink jerseys and rolled past the Lady Mustangs.

After a 15-2 run, McDonald County called its first timeout, but the Lady Mt’neers never gave in, leading 27-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The lead grew to 36-2 before Mc- Donald County scored again and the lead was 39 at the half, 47-8.

Mt. Vernon led 65-14 after three quarters and a running mercy clock in the fi- nal quarter kept the score to a 70-20 final.

Cameron Call finished with 19 points to pace the Lady Mt’neers, followed by Caitlin Hicks’ 18 points. Lacy Stokes had 13 and Camryn Eldridge made it four Mt. Vernon players in double-digits with 10 points.

The Lady Mt’neers are currently playing in the Class 3 District 12 Tournament, which is being held at Mt. Vernon High School.

After a first-round win over Diamond, Mt. Vernon will play in a semifinal game on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. A win on Thursday would put the Lady Mt’neers in the district championship game at home, Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m.
