The new railroad overpass currently under construction on Highway 39 northwest of Aurora is now expected to be completed by the end of June 2019, a MoDOT representative told the Aurora City Council during their meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

A one-half-cent sales tax which the Lawrence County Commission put on the ballot for the election to be held on Tuesday, April 2 was the topic of discussion during the Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen’s meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The Mt. Vernon restaurant Martin’s Mt’Neer announced on Facebook that they have decided to close. The eatery, located on the Mt. Vernon square, its second location after moving from Mt. Vernon Boulevard, will remain open three or four more weeks before permanently going out of business.

The board of directors of First Independent Bank, Aurora, has announced the election of Marcia Sadler of Aurora to the bank’s board of directors. Sadler moved to Aurora in 1997 as district Customer Service Manager for Empire District Electric and has remained with Empire for over 20 years.
