Almo Genette Leslie McElmurry, 98, of Monett, MO, formerly of Miller, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, while at Oak Pointe of Monett.

Almo was born on November 3, 1919 in Leslie, AR, daughter of the late Guy Cleveland Leslie and Mamie Stella (Ellis) Leslie. Almo received her Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Missouri. During her career as an Educator, Almo taught high school English at Miller, Mt. Vernon and Hazelwood Schools. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary as well as she volunteered countless hours at the Missouri Veterans Home. She enjoyed reading and writing and was a published author of many short stories and poems.

Almo Leslie and Rex H. McElmurry were united in marriage on September 13, 1943 in Texas and to this union, two children were born. Rex preceded her in death on March 5, 1998. Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Jan Leslie McElmurry Lee.

Almo is survived by one son, R. Coe McElmurry and his wife Suzy, of Monett; three grandchildren, Rip Lee and wife Rebecca, of Wichita, KS, Chad Lundy, of Barnsdall, OK and Jennifer Williams and husband Dan, of Janesville, WI; and nine great-grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Lee, Canyon, Luke and Cayden Lundy, Daniel, Audrey, Melina and Ivy Williams.

Visitation was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Miller United Methodist Church, 102 S. Hobbs, Miller, MO. Funeral services followed at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be held at Miller Memorial Gardens. Reverend Clif Crockett officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
