William Edward “Bill” Smith
William Edward “Bill” Smith, 88, of Republic, passed away Feb. 1, 2020. He was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Marionville to Samuel and Mary Smith. He grew up in Marionville and was a 1949 graduate of Marionville High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard in Aurora and worked for General Electric in Springfield.
Smith was a member of the Marionville Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He moved to Republic in 1995 and became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, in Republic, and taught the senior Sunday school class. In 1951, he married Shirley DePriest in Bentonville, Ark. She preceded him in death in 2011.
Smith is survived by: son, Rick (Debbie) Smith; daughter, Cindy (Curtis) Edmondson; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; brother, Kenneth; and sisters, Sarah, Bessie, Lena Mary, Katherine and Bea.
A funeral service, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home in Marionville,was held at 10 a.m. Feb. 7, 2020, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Republic. Burial followed at the Marionville IOOF Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 6, 2020, in the funeral home chapel.
