Two students injured in bus crash south of Mt. Vernon

Juveniles reportedly receive minor injuries
 
A Mt. Vernon school bus collided with a vehicle on Jan. 20, with two juveniles receiving minor injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the school bus, identified as a 2023 Thomas bus, collided with a Chevrolet Equinox while it was stopped in traffic on Route H about two miles south of Mt. Vernon. The Equinox, driven by a 70-year-old man, received extensive damage, while the bus, driven by a 74-year-old man, received minor damage.
The crash report identifies two juveniles on the bus that were injured during the incident, both of whom were transported to Cox Hospital in Monett via ambulance.
The crash took place at 8:28 a.m. while the bus with students was on its way to Scott Tech.
As previously reported, several emergency vehicles arrived at the scene along with school officials.
In a statement following the crash, Christina West, superintendent of Mt. Vernon schools, attempted to ease the concerns of parents and citizens.
“In strict accordance with our district and First Student safety protocols, emergency services were immediately contacted. Police and EMS arrived promptly at the scene,” the release said. “I am relieved to report that no serious injuries occurred. Every student on the bus, as well as the driver, was checked by medical personnel at the scene as a precautionary measure, and for those students affected, medical attention was given as necessary. School administration and personnel were on-site to assist. The parents of all students involved in the incident have already been contacted directly. If you have not received a call from the school regarding this specific incident, your child was not involved.”
