Truck theft in Mt. Vernon; suspected thief, dog apprehended

The morning of Thursday, Feb. 28, Mt. Vernon police were dispatched to USA Inn, Mt. Vernon Boulevard, where Julie Ann McGlothin, 37, of Greenwood, Miss., was refusing to leave the hotel. Police advised her that she needed to leave due to the owner not wanting her there.
Less than an hour later, a 1995 Dodge truck was stolen from the neighboring McDonald’s parking lot. The owner of the vehicle was Michael Ayers, who said that a female with a large brown dog walked up to him and asked for a ride. Ayers declined due to being on his lunch break. Ayers placed his key in his floorboard and exited the vehicle.
McGlothin then allegedly stole the vehicle and was seen going west on I-44. A short time later the truck was located in a ditch on H highway. McGlothin was later arrested and transported to Lawrence County Jail. Her dog was taken to the city pound. McGlothin is charged with stealing a motor vehicle and is being held for a $35,000 bond.
