Timothy J. Hughes

Timothy J. Hughes, 70, of Belton passed away, Jan. 11, 2020 at Carnegie Village Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Belton,
Hughes was born in Bentonville, Ark. May 30, 1949, to Kenneth and Bernice (Kelly) Hughes. Hughes married Kay Strong Aug. 13, 1972 in Wentworth and she survives. Hughes started teaching in 1987 with Metropolitan Community Colleges in the Kansas City area. He retired from Belton High School where he taught from 2000-2012. He started the high school news cast at Belton and was the speech and debate coach. He was District Teacher of the Year in 2004.
Surviving are: wife, Kay of Belton; sons, Jamie Hughes of Milo and Stephen Hughes of Belton; daughter, Rebecca Aciego from Peculiar; sister, Jeanie Close of Raytown; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, Jan. 17, 2020. Graveside services were at Van Buren Cemetery in Wentworth Jan. 17, 2020. On Jan. 26, 2020, the family will hold a celebration of life at Centerview, 227 Municipal Circle in Raymore.
