Thompson new Mt. Vernon city code enforcement officer

Hire will also hold title of Planning and Zoning director for county seat municipality
Trent Thompson is the new Mt. Vernon code enforcement officer and director of the Planning and Zoning Department. He succeeds Terry Moore, who recently retired from public service. Joe Kelley, city administrator, introduced him to the Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen during their meeting on Tuesday, June 28.
Prior to coming to Mt. Vernon, Thompson was building inspector for Monett; he brings 14 years of experience to his new position.
Thompson said he chose to become the city’s code enforcement officer and Planning and Zoning director because the role fit him.
“This came open, and it was a good move,” he said.

In other business, the board approved the purchase of 100 water meters and 100 water meter ERTs for a total of $39,995 for the Water Department. They also approved the purchase of inventory items for the Electric Department at a cost of $12,344.75, and also voted to pay $6,000 to BBC Electric to repair a bad three phase pole located at E. Sloan and S. McCanse. The board also voted to authorize Kelley to sign a reimbursement request of $19,238.96 for design work done on the Hickory Street Sidewalk Project.
Also, during the meeting, Kelley told the board that the contract completion date for Branco to complete the Spirit of ’76 Park expansion had been moved from July 4 to July 26, due to damage caused by the April 26 storm event which saw over four-and-a-half inches of rainfall in three hours.
Additionally, Public Works Director Dustin Davis told the board that citizens had reached out to him concerning algae blooms in the Williams Creek Pond. He said that he spoke to the Missouri Department of Conservation about either removing the blooms or aerating the pond, and that they would contact him for a time to visit the pond.
