Strong hitting not enough as Lady Mt’neers fall in last two games, look to host wins

Mt. Vernon Lady Mt’neers fell 4-2, 14-11 despite out-hitting both teams
Lady Mt’neers 2, Pittsburg Purple Dragons 4
The Lady Mt’neers fell 4-2 to the Pittsburg Purple Dragons on Tuesday despite out-hitting them nine to eight. Molly Daniels, Lilly Burk and Cheyenne Bieber each collected two hits for the Lady Mt’neers.
Pittsburg got on the board in the top of the third inning after a triple down the left field line and a wild pitch allowed two runs to come across the plate. Emmie Schubert doubled down the left field line, which helped the Lady Mt’neers tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.
The top of the fourth inning saw the Purple Dragons regain the lead after a sacrifice bunt and a double to left field each brought runs across the plate.
Schubert took the loss for Mt. Vernon.

Lady Mt’neers 11, Diamond Wildcats 14
The Lady Mt’neers traveled to Diamond on Monday night to face off against the Lady Wildcats for the third time this season. Despite collecting 11 hits, they still fell 14-11 in the seventh inning. Daniels, Burk, Schubert, Bieber and Rae Downing each collected two hits.
The Lady Mt’neers were first on the board when a perfectly laid bunt by Daniels placed her on the base path. Downing then doubled, scoring one run. The lead didn’t last long as the Wildcats leadoff hitter, Lauren Turner, homered to left field, tying the game at one.
The Lady Mt’neers were able to regain a 5-4 lead in the top of the third inning thanks to home runs by Bieber and Schubert. Later, trailing 8-5 in the fifth, Downing homered to center field, scoring two runs and Burk doubled scoring another run and a double by Maddie Schubert gave the Lady Mt’neers the lead, 11-10, in the top of the sixth.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead 14-11, in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three errors and they never looked back.
Bieber took the loss for Mt. Vernon. The Lady Mt’neers amassed 11 hits in the game. Downing drove the middle of the lineup with three runs batted in and going 2-for-4 on the day. Daniels stole two bases and went 2-for-4 scoring 3 runs.
The Lady Mt’neers were back on the field as they traveled to Southwest High School in Washburn on Tuesday and will host West County, Kennett, Versailles and Warsaw on their home field this weekend.
