Attendance was high despite a sweltering weekend at the annual Steam-O-Rama, south of Halltown. According to Shelley Elliott, Secretary for the Ozarks Steam Engine Association, which hosts the steam show every year, attendance was up more than 30 percent as an estimated 10,000 individuals attended the annual show at the Whinrey Homestead.
This year featured over 1,500 exhibitors per Elliott, among them was a 150HP Case, the largest steam traction engine in the world. Also on display was the J.I. Case Heritage Expo which displayed a selection of Case tractors and equipment including a Case brand car.
This year, Steam-O-Rama also featured a new addition to its entertainment repertoire, the bluegrass and open mic stage, hosted by Lindley Creek. The stage played host to multiple local bands, jam sessions and Sunday’s worship service.
Attendees came from all over to see the gathering of steam and gas machines. According to Elliott, registration lists exhibitors from as far as California, New York and Florida. One family rode their bikes from North Carolina to catch the event.
“We are thankful for these exhibitors and their willingness to haul their engines, tractors, and gas engines to a show, especially with gas prices these days,” said Elliott. “We would like to thank the Halltown Fire Protection Service for their ongoing support and assistance with our guests, especially those that suffered from the extreme heat.”
