Mickey Owen Baseball School, Route 66 Cabin Rentals and The Dining Hall Steakhouse and Event Center was made available to the public after the ribbon cutting on Friday, March 27. Members of the community were invited to a guided tour of the facilities where they were shown the growth, as well as the preservation and restoration of the Highway 96 property.

Mickey Owen Baseball School has nine tournaments available this summer with more than 100 teams already signed up. Owner Bobi Johnson plans to continue baseball lessons, as well as design programs for players during the week with summer plans of hosting activities like baseball camp. In October, they plan to focus on the Home Run Derby and building on that by bringing in professional baseball players or members of the Savannah Bananas ball team.

Cabin rentals

Route 66 Cabin Rentals is a new feature to the Mickey Owen site. With five cabins ready to rent and 11 more still in the works, a total of 16 cabins will be named after big league teams keeping the tradition that Mickey Owen himself started. Cabin rentals are available to anyone that wants to reserve them.

The Dining Hall

The Dinning Hall Steakhouse and Event Center, featuring steaks and pork specials from Mansel Meats, is another destination on the property. Dining hours are from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, while walk-ins are welcome, reservations are recommended.

Local ownership

Owners Boby and Daylon Johnson are Miller graduates. Boby was drafted in 2018 by the Colorado Rockies but left the minors in 2023. He is now happy to be home and toiling in the sport he loves.

“It’s a big blessing to be around the game and help grow baseball around southwest Missouri,” Boby said.
