MVPD gets new threads

The officers in the Mt. Vernon Police Department now have new, navy-blue uniforms that they will wear when on duty. Dave Hubert, chief of the MVPD, said that the uniforms allow the officers to carry a lot of their equipment differently than their previous uniforms, making them less taxing on the officers' bodies.
"They are load bearing," he said, "which means they put the weight of our duty belt off of our hips and our lower back, and you’re carrying the weight on your shoulders instead of your hips." He jokingly added, "So hopefully, when these guys are ready to retire like I am, they won’t be as broken down as I am."
The new uniforms have pockets that allow the officers to carry items like handcuffs, ammo magazines, flashlights, radios and other items in vests up front, while other equipment such as sidearms and tasers will continue to be worn on their service belts.
