Coke beats Pepsi for MV R-5 school bid, could mean an additional $12 grand for Mt. Vernon Athletic Booster Club

At the June 20 Mt. Vernon Board of Education meeting, the board approved a five-year contract with Ozarks Coca- Cola Bottling Company. Both PepsiCo and Ozarks Coca-Cola submitted proposals for the multi-year deal, but the board decided the Coca-Cola contract would benefit the district most.
The value of the proposal is estimated to be $12,392 additional revenue for the Athletic Booster Club compared to PepsiCo. The revenues will come in the form of product rebates, sideline gear, point-of-sale signage, student scholarships, donated products and earned commissions. The contract will be in place until 2025.
In other news during the meeting, Mt. Vernon Superintendent Scott Cook reported that the average daily attendance had increased slightly compared to this time last year, with the combined attendance being 95.17 percent.
The board approved the board meeting dates for the 2019-2020 school year. The meetings for these dates will be held on the south campus. The board also approved a districtwide evaluation plan for the 2019-2020 school year.
The board also agreed to enter an agreement between the Department of Social Service, Mo HealthNet Division. The district is currently participating in direct services claiming that allows the school to submit claims for a variety of medical services for students with disabilities which is a low, flat-rate reimbursement administered by the MSBA.
The new agreement of cost settlement will allow the school to be reimbursed for a percentage of the cost of therapy for students that are Medicaid eligible. The MSBA will support the school in the cost settlement program for 10 percent of the claims received.
The board also unanimously approved a salary schedule. This schedule will allow the school to increase salary for teachers and staff in small increments and stay comparable to other districts similar to Mt. Vernon. For this year: the salary will increase at 2 percent; add $250 to professional staff base salary, from $32,750 to $33,000; support staff will raise to .76 percent;
 the school will also fund employee insurance. They will fully fund STEPS; and the new summer school hourly rate will be $28 per hour. The board also updated salary provision policies: resuming coquette stipend at 7 percent; adding cross country stipend at 7 percent; adding $500 for wellness coordinator; increasing extra duty ceiling to correspond to $38,650; leaving substitute teachers pay at $80 per day.
