It was a wet week across the Ozarks and that does not bode well for diamond sports. Only two games were played as Miller and Mt. Vernon softball had their opening round games in this year’s district tournament.
Miller took care of business down in Exeter. They defeated Golden City in an 11-8 victory for the Lady Cardinals. They took on top-seeded Purdy on Monday with a trip to the championship game on the line, winning 12-11.
Mt. Vernon did not have it so easy. It took all seven innings to create any separation, but Josey McChesney got it done with a walk-off single in the bottom of the final frame against East Newton, winning 2-1. This set up a district semifinal matchup Monday night against one of the best teams in the state, Diamond.
The Lady Mt’neers didn’t fare quite as well against Diamond, Monday, as the Lady Wildcats got the better of the Lady Mt’neers 1-0, at Mt. Vernon, ending their season.
