The 2025 football season has come to end for the Mt. Vernon High School football team after their Class 3, District 6 semifinal loss at Cassville on Friday, Nov. 7, 27-14.
Hunter Dawson finished the game 13-21 for 123 yards and a touchdown, Hunter Conway had 22 yards on six carries with a touchdown, Lucas Schoen had 18 yards on two catches with a touchdown and Griffin Cordray ended the game with 69 yards on three catches.
“It was a very physical football game against a very good Cassville team,” said Head Coach Tom Cox. “The defenses on both teams played hard and we were still within striking distance until the final minutes. I couldn’t be prouder of this team if they had gone undefeated. For us to start out 0-3 and then win 6 of our last 7 before falling to Cassville on Friday night was incredible. Our guys never gave up and they continued to battle until the very end. Hats off to our seniors who never wavered and led our team to a winning season. We have some real warriors on this team that gave it all they had. There is no doubt that much success lies ahead in their future. Proud to go to battle with these players and coaches wearing the Mt’neer Green. It was, is and always will be a great day to be a Mt’neer!”
Mt. Vernon ended the season with a 6-5 record.
