Parts of Business 39 to receive construction
The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance during their meeting on Tuesday, June 11, authorizing the first supplemental agreement between the city and the Missouri Highway and Transportation regarding an agreement the city and the commission entered into on Feb. 19 for the construction of sidewalks along Business 39 from North Street to the Mt. Vernon Intermediate School.
The supplemental agreement revises paragraph 16 of the original agreement, concerning the use of federal funds to reimburse the city’s costs. The paragraph also states the federal government will pay 80-percent of the costs of preliminary engineering on the project, with a limit set at $44,844.95. The federal government will also pay 80-percent of the costs of “right of way, utility relocation, construction and construction engineering” on the project, with a limit set at $292,331.77. The city is responsible for the remaining costs.
The board also agreed to permit a Masonic dedication of the new city hall, which was proposed by Wayne Wade, of Mt. Vernon Lodge #99 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. The dedication will take place at the lodge on Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m.
In other business, the board approved the purchase of materials to lower the water line and repair the sewer line in the Gibbs Park Stormwater Project. They also approved the purchase of a new 1000 KW transformer for the Red Monkey Facility, pending its sale.
