Mt. Vernon’s Moore inducted into Missouri Agriculture Hall of Fame

Moore
Jackie Moore, a pillar of beef production in southwest Missouri has been inducted into the Missouri Agriculture Hall of Fame. Moore is the owner of Joplin Stockyards and has overseen the operation as it grew into the biggest livestock auction in the country.
At only 13 years of age, Moore began auction school, the beginning of a lifetime in the trade. In 1986, Moore and his partners purchased Joplin Stockyards. Under his direction, the facility moved operations to a large facility along I-44 in 1995.
Since then, the stockyards have grown to the largest livestock auction in the country according to the Missouri Agriculture Hall of Fame. This is in no small part due to Moore’s leadership as he pioneered many of the modern livestock auctioning practices we see so often today. One of these advancements is the online video auction, something Moore took on more than 20 years ago.
Now living outside Mt. Vernon, Moore has seen his family get involved in the family business. Moore and his wife, Shelly, have seen their children and grandchildren participate in the business, bringing the operation to new heights.
Moore was inducted into the Missouri Agriculture Hall of Fame on April 14. The hall of fame was created in 2024 in order to recognize leaders in local production and agribusiness. The inductees are selected annually by a committee.
