Monett city officials formally cut a ribbon for the new entrance to North Park, an improvement that’s been under discussion for around 10 years. Paid with the city’s sales tax for park upkeep, the effort involved laying 130 feet of stormwater drain pipe across the entrance, pouring a concrete surface with a gravel base and widening the driveway to three lanes to accommodate left and right turns plus an entry lane. Striping will come during warmer weather. Parks Commissioner Ken Gaspar observed those who have attended tournaments at the facility for the last 20 years will “quickly recognize the change and see the pride in the facility.” Mayor Randy Burke, who cut the ribbon, said, “This is a great welcome to Monett.”
